Wildlife@Home is a joint effort between the University of North Dakota'sDepartment of Computer Science and Department of Biology, aimed at analyzing video gathered from various cameras recording wildlife. Currently the project is looking at video of sharp-tailed grouse,Tympanuchus phasianellus, performing their mating dances (lekking), and then examining their nesting habits and ecology. The nest cameras have been set up up both near western North Dakota's oil fields and also within protected state lands. We recently have also begun studying two federally protected species, interior least terns, Sternula antillarum, and piping plovers, Charadruis melodus. We hope that your participation will help us determine the impact of the oil development on the sharp-tailed grouse, and better understand the behaviors of least terns and piping plovers to aid in their conservation, as well as provide some interesting video for everyone to watch and discuss. Feel free to scroll through our image gallery on the right to get a better idea of what's going on with the project and see the field biologists in action.

以下为本项目的近期更新历史:
2013-04-23:Wildlife@Home,OSX and linux 0.09 are out
We have new binaries out. Let me know how they're crunching. These should be more respective of real runtimes for the workunits.
If all goes well, it's probably also a good time to talk about how the credit levels for the workunits (not to open up a big can of worms). They do all involve downloading a massive movie file, so I think we should probably be giving some bonus credit for that.
2013-04-23:Wildlife@Home,Updated to 0.10
Looks like there was a problem with the file name (at least for OSX) so I updated both application versions to 0.10. They're working on my laptop at any rate, so I think they should be crunching elsewhere. Let me know how things are going.
2013-04-23:Wildlife@Home,Updated linux to 0.11
I updated the linux binary to 0.11 as some people were reporting errors. Let me know if this fixes it.
2013-04-23:Wildlife@Home,stats export should be on now
Pretty sure I've turned it on and did the first stats export. Let me know how it's working.
On to credit -- how is the credit being awarded for the WUs? Should there be credit for MBs downloaded? is this something other projects do?
2013-04-24:Wildlife@Home,video hosting server going down temporarily
Hi Everyone,
The server that hosts all the streaming video for the website is going down for an hour or two to have it's networking card upgraded and replaced, so no videos will be available for awhile.
I'll let you know when it's back up and running.

2013-04-24:Wildlife@Home,video server back up
Hi Everyone,
Looks like the video server is back up and running. It should also improve download and streaming speeds because the server now has a 10gb ethernet card (as opposed to a 1gb ethernet card).

2013-04-30:Wildlife@Home,sending out new workunits
I'm working on generating new workunits for the SURF feature detection algorithm. They should take approximately 40x longer than the other workunits. Trying to fix a couple kinks but hope to have them out this afternoon.
2013-04-30:Wildlife@Home,testing the wildlife_surf application v0.01
I generated a larger batch of workunits for the other application. These should have a significantly longer runtime (my tests have them about 40x longer than the previous batch). Let me know how they're working!
2013-05-02:Wildlife@Home,Updated linux application to 0.02
Hi Everyone,
I've updated the linux surf application to 0.02, which I think should fix both the validation errors and also the errors some people have had with a missing GLIBCXX library. Let me know how they're crunching.
