The Competition for the best algorithm and its implementation in subproject called Weird Engine
One of our subprojects on OProject@Home is called Weird Engine. In this subproject users search the weird numbers. These numbers are stored in a database and those numbers are available for everybody. Standard search algorithm for weird numbers is very slow, and is based on the subset sum problem. This is called NP-complete problem; however, there are faster methods. Subject of this competition is design and implementation portable application to generate weird numbers. Competition starts from 2012 October 14.
This program should be written in ANSI C / C++ (preferred ANSI C). It should only use standard libraries of these languages. This enables a simple compilation of the program on a variety of platforms (e.g. Windows, Linux, Solaris, OS X). Programs should be compiled using the gcc or g++ compiler (package GNU GCC).
