Our data server internet link returned this morning at 10:00 UTC (3:00am PDT). It was offline for just over 24 hours, so many connections will be dropped as the servers try to catch up.

Due to some network reconfiguring on our subnet here at the lab, the database server shut itself down fearing there was a power outage. It went offline around 01:00 UTC, but is back up now.

Outage Notices. This Sunday, May 22, there will be sporadic short outages of both our web site and data server as network infrastructure work is done here as SSL. These outages will occur between 16:00 and midnight UTC. On Monday, May 23, there will be a data server outage of up to 2 hours for a physical router move. This outage will begin at 16:00 UTC.

The file server containing the upload/download storage hung last evening. We had to power cycle it today to bring it back. It is now back up and the RAID is resync'ing. When this is complete we will bring scheduling and data service back on line.

The file server containing the upload/download storage hung again. It is rebooting now and will have to resync its RAID before we can restart data service

We are back online after recovering from a file server crash. We will receive an OS revision soon that should prevent this from happening again. In the meantime we are refraining from doing snapshots (a backup method) on the file server as active snapshots seem to be part of the problem.

Outage Notice. We will be having an outage tomorrow for a full database backup. This will begin at 17:00 UTC and may last up to 3 hours. The new scheduling server should make clearing the backlog go quicker after the outage.

We are back online after the backup. By virtue of the new scheduling server we are seeing no post-outage connection drops.

Yesterday we fixed a bug in the scheduler that caused the fastcgi processes to die after running for a while. Immediately this helped the current backlog, as we removed the extra overhead of continually restarting the cgi processes. Last night the schedulers caught up from all the outages this weekend and we have been operating smoothly all morning.

And then some actual improvement before disaster strikes: As predicted in the previous technical news item, we just upgraded the BOINC scheduling system. Originally both the scheduler and the upload/download functionality were on the same server. This morning we configured the SETI@home classic master science database server to be the new BOINC scheduler while leaving the actual file upload/download on its current server. As the DNS changes slowly take effect both systems are acting as schedulers, but eventually there will be a clean split.

之前seti on boinc的调度和上传/下载服务是在同一台服务器上的，现在项目组将seti classic的主科学数据库服务器重新配置成了seti on boinc的调度服务器，而上传/下载仍保留在原来的服务器上。
