Running Pi Segment GUI on Dual Core
Hi,I'm not sure if this a repost or not. Sorry if it is.
I always watch the CPU processing and I noticed that the GUI list both cores but it is only using half of 1 core. Also, if I suspend all other projects, it only uses 25% per core for a total of 50% CPU and leaves 50% idle.
Is there an adjustment that I can make so it is actually using 2 cores?
Thanks
Bill I have just received your email.
The adjustment would be:
1. Exit the client
2. Find a text file named "config.ini" in its folder and open it by notepad
3. Find item "Affinity" in and , it must be 1 and 2
4. Change them to 3,save the file and exit notepad
5. Run the client again
But it is strange that you said it use 50% even you suspend all other projects.
Do you copy the config.ini from another single-core machine? If so, it would cause that problem. Hi JUST,
I post this and got your email about 5 minutes after I posted.
I was running with Boinc manager. Boinc was using 50% of 1 and 25% other. The GUIs were using 12+% and 12+% for toal of 25%.The Affinity was set at 1 for both.
I changed it to 3 the GUI used 1 core at 50% and the other at 25%. Boinc used 25% left. Then when I suspended boinc the GUI Used 1 and 1/2 and left 25% idle.
Since I running Boinc all the too I set it to 2 and they are running in harmony 50% boinc 25 and 25 for GUIs
Are there settings above 3? I didn't try any other for now because I'm a happy cruncher now.
I noticed in the config file more cores. Is anyone running dual-Quads?
Thanks again for the help
Bill
X Grubbers Kick Ass About the Affinity:
1:can schedule it in core 0
2:can schedule it in core 1
4:can schedule it in core 2
...
the value can be the sum of above, e.g. 3 means use both core 0 and core 1
so in dual-core system, value above 3 is invalid.
the client can adapt machine with at most 8 cores.
I found someone running dual-core XEON * 2, totally 4 cores. Ya. I think my next ones going to be an Intel PD X core 2 Duo. I think Core 2 Extreme QX6700 is better. it has 4 cores in one package. That's the one I meant. I'm looking at a barebone right now. It around 600 US Dollars. Browsing around for one less before I buy it. The dual-core is great but just trying to imagine the wut 4 core.
