我也收到,这是详细的:
Hello,
I would like to invite you to take part in the "beta test" of our new
climateprediction.net BOINC client. I assume that you are familiar
with
the BOINC project, developed by the SETI@Home team, but if not (or you
want a review), please visit their website: http://boinc.berkeley.edu
Also, if you are unfamiliar with the climateprediction.net project I
invite you to visit our website (our name is our address :-).
As a caveat, I should warn you that running a full-scale climate model
is
quite a step up in terms of CPU time & disk space & processing power
required for SETI@Home, folding@home etc. Typically it will use 50MB
of RAM and a full run requires 600MB of hard drive space (minimum
requirements which are set in BOINC over the course of a full run,
which
typically takes a month on a fairly good computer (i.e. G5 Mac or
P4/2.6GHz PC) running "24/7." If you don't have this setup in your
BOINC profile (see below) it should "skip over" your computer
automatically.
We have setup the current model to run under Windows, Linux/x86,
and Mac OS X under BOINC (all 32-bit, we will tackle 64-bit machines
next). Therefore, the climate model is similar to the "engine" of the
classic Windows CPDN versions. This as you may know, is the UK Met
Office's
Hadley Centre SM3 (Slab Model 3) run in three phases of 259248
timesteps
-- spin-up phase, control ("pre-industrial"), and experimental phase
("industrial age" doubling of CO2).
If you do, or do not, want to be an beta tester, please keep this
information private as we are not quite ready for large numbers of
users
on the beta test site.
Also please note that if you are currently running BOINC apps such
as SETI@Home and predictor@home (which use BOINC version 3.x) -- this
is not currently compatible with CPDN. You would need to use our BOINC
4.02
client(s) (or your own compiled from BOINC source later than 3rd
August).
Installation
------------
The first step will be to create an account on the server via the
web page:
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc
This will send an email to you to verify your email address &
account, and send a "key" that you can use on your BOINC client.
You can download the BOINC client at:
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/download.php
If you already have BOINC, earlier versions (i.e. <4.02,
compiled before 3 August '04) will not currently work with
the CPDN/BOINC software.
Setting User Preferences
------------------------
Please note that upon creating your CPDN/BOINC account above, you
will want to double-check the default settings for your configuration.
The CPDN client uses approximately 600MB total per each workunit, as
well as 60MB of RAM, so your machine will need to have that much free
disk space and memory. BOINC knows to skip your machine if there is
insufficient space, however if you do not double-check your BOINC
preferences the default settings for disk usage of the core client
may be too low.
-------------------
Notes for Mac & Linux: The BOINC client is a ".gz" which you will
have to gunzip or "gzip -d" from a terminal. It doesn't seem to
preserve executable permissions so you will need to do a
"chmod uog+rx boinc_*" on the file. Then you should be able to
execute ./boinc_4*
Also note that although BOINC is a "command-line" app for Mac &
Linux currently -- we do have a preliminary OpenGL app (which should be
downloaded automatically when your BOINC client gets the CPDN
files). Just go to the BOINC directory, subdirectory
projects/climateprediction.net/ and run the "viz" file
there (or directly run the hadsm3viz_4* file).
Notes for Windows Users: The BOINC client is a simple self-extracting
archive which you can extract into the directory of your choice.
You may want to move the "boinc.scr" screensaver into your
Windows/system32 directory and choose it as your screensaver to try
it out.
-------------------
Upon launching the BOINC client, you will be prompted to "attach" to
a project. You can then enter project URL:
http://climateprediction.net
and your CPDN/BOINC account key (this information will be emailed to
you separately).
Please feel free to email myself or Tolu ([email protected]) directly
for emergency help, problems, questions, or any feedback. Or, if it is
a
question or comment of general interest, please post on the
CPDN/BOINC forum at:
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_help_desk.php
CPDN/BOINC Alpha Testers Please Note: You may choose/wish to
let your current runs finish before moving to the beta test, which
will require a different client etc. Or you can visit the alpha test
site (climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/boinc) and follow the instructions for
moving your current run up to the beta test (works for Macs too now
since the Fortran compiler hasn't changed).
Win 98/ME: Please note that CPDN/BOINC does not seem to be compatible
with
Windows 98 & ME, we are looking on fixing this compatibility problem by
the
time of the launch in a few weeks or in a beta upgrade in a week. |
