CPU counts
Previous clients may not get assigned when they have CPU counts that our simulation software does not like. This client negotiates a lower CPU count with the AS so that it can continue folding with the most possible CPUs. This also helps with systems that have more CPUs than we are able to currently handle. In the near future, we will be releasing a new simulation core which will fully utilize higher CPU counts.
Bug fixes
This release includes a number of bug fixes. We believe we have fixed the FAHControl disconnection problems some users experienced. Several compatibility improvements have been made for Linux installs. Other bug fixes are mentioned above in the change logs.
OSX Client
You may notice that there currently is no new OSX beta. We have not forgotten about OSX. It's just taking a bit longer to get the OSX client ready. We have acquired new Mac hardware and are working towards a OSX release. We plan to have OSX online before we move this new client to a full public release.
GPU Detection
We have made some improvements to the GPU detection logic however the client still has some problems on systems with multiple different GPUs. We hope to iron out these issues in beta testing.
New 64-bit Windows Client
We now have a 64-bit Windows client. The 32-bit client will eventually be deprecated. It is highly recommended that if you are installing the new 64-bit Windows client that you manually uninstall the 32-bit client first.
Upgrading
Please note that once you install this client you cannot downgrade with out also removing your Folding@home data. This newer client upgrades it's database in a way that is not backwards compatible. If you do need to downgrade please finish all y our WUs first. Better yet, if you run in to problems let us know and we will try to fix it.
Final notes
As always your efforts to beta test our software are greatly appreciated. We have tested this internally over several months. However, it is very likely some bugs remain. If you encounter problems, please calmly report it here and we will do our best to fix it.
