Sorry, SETIatWork is still down.
It's Sunday night and I am back home from San Diego but my server is still inaccessible (this website you are viewing is a temporary virtual hosting account I signed up after the server down to convey the message and to continue receiving emails.
Even though the server provider had rebooted the server a number of times, the server remained down. So far, I have thought of two possibilities of the cause of this outage:
The IP address was modified not too long ago. When the server was power-cycled without proper shut down, the previous network settings might be reverted. Because the previous IP address is not valid anymore, the server cannot connect to the Internet ...
An outage at Berkeley caused update processes to pile up and eventually overloaded the system. After a reboot, the system restarted all the missed scheduled jobs and again crashed the system after a short while if the processes were not terminated.
I have requested my server provider to check the network settings and reboot the server on Monday, April 25 at 1900hr UTC. Once that is done and server is up, I will login and fix the system ASAP.
I am really sorry for the inconvenience and causing so much distresses to many of you :(
At the mean time, you may contact me at [email protected] |
