As announced, SIMAP is marathon discipline in the BOINC Pentathlon organized by seti-germany.de.

Many users had pre-calculated lots of results and are submitting them since the start of the pentathlon this morning. This causes a high load on the upload/download server, due to the limits in network and storage bandwidth. However, the whole system is functioning normally and generates continuously new workunits. We expect that the load will reduce soon, however it will remain at a substantial level during the Pentathlon until May 19.

Due to server maintenance the whole project will shut down on Friday, May 31, from about 7.00 to 8.00 UTC. All parts of the project including the web portal will be affected. Sorry for this, we will keep the downtime as short as possible.

The workunits for the about 980.000 new protein sequences (for the July release of SIMAP) will be available from Mon, Jul 1. We estimate that the batch for July will need about three weeks of work.

We are currently upgrading the BOINC servers (operating system, storage partitioning). The project will therefore be offline for several hours on Aug 27 and Aug 28. We apologize for the downtime today, which was not announced and due to an unexpected storage configuration problem.

The server upgrades have been finished. All services are running normally. We will no longer support the old URL (boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de). If you experience any connection problems, please upgrade to the current URL (boincsimap.org).

During the last week we have imported more than 5.5 million new proteins into SIMAP. This was due to a major change in the structure of the NCBI RefSeq database, which is covered by SIMAP.

The workunits for these many new protein sequences will be available from Sun, Sep 1. Due to the unusually many new proteins we expect about three months of continuous work for SIMAP.

We have upgraded the BOINC server software to version 7.3.0. Seems that everything runs fine. Please report any problem here in the message boards.

The BOINCSIMAP team wishes all partipants a merry xmas and a happy new year.

This year has been very successful for us. The number of users and collaborating projects was further increased. Big biological databases (e.g., GeneCards, eggNOG and STRING) have again made their new releases based on SIMAP data.

We look forward to an interesting new year 2014. BOINCSIMAP will be extended to mobile devices and we also plan improving its calculation algorithm.

Thank you for supporting our project and helping to keep the largest database of protein similarities and protein features up-to-date.

From Jan 19th to Feb 1st 2014 the Teams l'Alliance Francophone and SETI.Germany are organizing the annual Charity-Crunch-Event, which will run at SIMAP this Year. All Crunchers who whish to participate should join the Charity-Team for the two weeks to crunch together as much SIMAP WUs as possible.

We will shutdown the entire BOINC server for about 20 minutes today due to urgent technical maintenance. We'll keep the downtime as short as possible.

The beta version of a simap app for android is now available. We invite smarthone and tablet owners to test the app and hope that no major problems occur. Please report problems in the "Forum" section of the boincsimap home page.

Samsung supports SIMAP by their new Power Sleep App. The app was launched yesterday and is a combination of alarm clock and BOINC client. Read more on the SIMAP homepage.

During the last week we have imported about 900.000 new proteins from the Uniprot database into SIMAP.

The workunits of these sequences will be available from Mon, Mar 17. We expect about a month of further continuous work for SIMAP.
